What does AI info mean on Instagram?
AI info is the label Instagram puts on content it believes was made or changed with AI. It was called “Made with AI” until July 2024, and the help center now calls it the “AI content” label. Content fully made by AI shows the label on the post. Content only edited with AI shows no label on the post; the AI info Instagram found sits in the post’s options menu (Instagram Help: Label AI content).
Meta says it adds the label when a file carries industry-standard signals that it was made with AI, including from other companies’ tools, or when you label it yourself. Those signals are metadata, and you can remove them before you post.
Where does the AI info label come from?
Only the first two rows live in the file.
| Source | What it looks like | Removable here? | What to do |
|---|
| AI metadata in the file | C2PA Content Credentials, an IPTC digital source type such as trainedAlgorithmicMedia, or a generator name in XMP or EXIF | Yes | Clean the file before you post it. |
|---|
| A real photo edited with an AI feature | Your editor wrote compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia or a C2PA record of the AI edit | Yes | Use “Remove AI fields only” to keep the camera data. |
|---|
| Your own label | You switched on “Add AI label” when sharing | No | Leave the switch off next time if your content does not need a label. |
|---|
| Meta AI images | Made with Meta AI, sometimes with a visible “Imagined with AI” mark | No | Meta says these are labeled even after you download and upload them again. |
|---|
| Pixel watermarks and visual checks | An invisible watermark such as Google SynthID, or Meta judging the image itself | No | No metadata tool can change this. |

How to remove AI info from an Instagram post
- Add the files. Drop what you plan to post on the box above. Each one is scanned right away and shows the AI fields it found.
- Clean them. Pick a mode and click Remove AI label metadata. The cleaned copy is scanned again, with a list of what was removed.
- Share the cleaned copy. Download it, or all files as a ZIP, and upload it to Instagram. Keep “Add AI label” off unless your content needs a label.
Already posted? Instagram keeps the file you uploaded, and its help center gives no way to remove AI info Instagram added to a live post. Clean the original, delete the post and share it again.
Stories, carousels and Reel covers
- Stories: the same file signals apply. Clean the photo first, then add it to your story.
- Carousels: every slide is its own file, so clean each one. Drop them all at once and download a ZIP.
- Reels: video is not supported. A cover image can be cleaned like any photo.
Why a real photo gets the AI label on Instagram
Your own camera shot can still carry an AI marker. Editors with a generative feature such as AI fill, expand or object removal can record the edit as compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia or in a C2PA manifest, and Instagram reads that, not the camera data.
To remove the AI label on Instagram and keep the photo’s camera details, choose Remove AI fields only. If the scan says “No AI metadata”, the AI info Instagram shows comes from somewhere else and cleaning will not change it.
Quick facts
- What it removes
- C2PA Content Credentials and the XMP, IPTC, EXIF and PNG text fields that name an AI source.
- What it keeps
- Orientation and the color profile. In AI-only mode also camera make, model, exposure, lens and dates.
- Formats
- JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and AVIF, returned in the same format.
- Image quality
- No re-encoding: the image data stays byte-identical.
- Batch
- Up to 30 images, 50 MB each, with a ZIP download.
- Where it runs
- In your browser. No network request while files are read or cleaned.
- Price
- Free, no account.
What cleaning can’t change
- Pixels: invisible watermarks such as SynthID and visible marks stay, because the tool never touches image data.
- Camera credentials: Instagram is adding a “Captured with a camera” label based on secure capture data, starting with its own camera (Instagram Help: camera capture labels). Cleaning removes all C2PA data, including camera credentials, so a cleaned photo can’t get that label.
- Disclosure rules: Meta requires a label on realistic AI video and audio, and laws or clients may require one too. This tool cleans images only, and removing metadata does not change those rules.
- Your original: removed C2PA data can’t be restored, so keep a copy.

FAQ
How do I remove AI info from an Instagram post after posting?
Instagram’s help center describes no way to remove the label from a live post. Clean the original file here, delete the post, and post the cleaned copy.
How do I remove AI info from an Instagram story?
Clean the photo before you add it to your story, and do not pick Label AI in the story options. A story that is already up keeps its label, so delete it and share the cleaned image.
How do I turn off AI info on Instagram?
The “Add AI label” switch on the share screen only adds your own label; leave it off if your content does not need one. Instagram lists no setting that turns off the label it adds from file signals, so remove AI label data from the file instead.
Why does Instagram say AI info on my real photo?
Usually an editing app recorded a generative edit in the file. Scan it: if it shows an AI field, choose “Remove AI fields only”; if not, the file is not the cause.
Why does the tool find nothing in a photo I saved from Instagram?
Instagram saves its own copy of every upload. In the posts we checked, labeled or not, that copy held only an internal Facebook reference field and no AI metadata, so the AI info Instagram shows is stored on its side. Clean the original file you posted instead.
Does a screenshot remove the AI label on Instagram?
A screenshot drops the metadata but saves the image again at screen resolution, pixel watermarks included. Cleaning keeps full quality.
Can I remove AI info from Reels?
Not from the video: this tool works on images only. You can clean a still image before you use it as a cover.
Will the AI info Instagram shows go away after I clean the photo?
The cleaned file no longer carries the metadata signal. Meta also uses other checks and labels Meta AI images anyway, so a label can still appear.
Is it free, and are my photos uploaded?
It is free with no sign-up. Photos are read and cleaned on your device and are never uploaded.
Can I use it on my iPhone?
Yes. Open this page in your phone’s browser; there is nothing to install. HEIC photos are cleaned without converting them to JPG.
What is the AI-generated profile label?
It is an account setting you turn on in Edit profile. It describes the account, not a photo, so cleaning files does not affect it.
